The Chilehaus is an office building built between 1922 and 1924 in Hamburg's Kontorhaus district. With a gross floor area of 36,000 m² and up to ten storeys on a floor area of 5,950 m², the building was one of Hamburg's first high-rise buildings. With its tip to the east, reminiscent of a ship's prow, it has become an icon of Expressionism in architecture. On July 5, 2015, the Kontorhaus district was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Hamburg's Speicherstadt warehouse district and the Chilehaus.
